*Scope 1,2,3 - Option
By purchasing the MKN SteelPlus option, MKN promises to process CO2 e reduced stainless steel according to your order in its production. The ordered appliance is not manufactured directly with CO2 e reduced stainless steel. However, the purchase of the option increases the proportion of CO2 e reduced stainless steel in MKN's total production by the proportion acquired. The amount of CO2 e saved by the purchase of approx. 0.83 kg** CO2 e per kg of stainless steel appliance insert (Scope 1, 2, 3 - option) will be confirmed.
The CO2 e reduced stainless steel used by MKN, among others, is produced using a special manufacturing process that reduces the CO2 e footprint by at least 40% compared to the European standard. Compared to the global average (6.82 tons of CO2 e per ton of stainless steel***), the CO2 e reduction is more than 80%, or over 85% if the stainless steel was produced in China (8.52 tons of CO2 e per ton of stainless steel****). The low CO2 e footprint of the stainless steel used is achieved through a particularly high recycling rate of approx. 98% and the use of low-CO2 e electricity for production.

The film shows how SteelPlus originates, why a genuine reduction in CO₂e emissions is decisive and how this material contributes to sustainable professional kitchens.
Emission values for the production of 1 tonne of stainless steel
No, not immediately. We cannot guarantee that your device is made exclusively from SteelPlus. But we do have independent bodies confirm that we incorporate the same amount of SteelPlus into our overall production process. This allows us to gradually increase the total amount of SteelPlus in production and, together with you, reduce CO2 e emissions during the manufacture of the appliances. You will receive written confirmation of the stainless steel content of your purchased appliance and thus the amount of CO2 e saved during stainless steel production.
We all have a great interest in reducing CO2 e emissions in order to counteract global warming. MKN is committed, takes responsibility and aligns its strategic corporate goals towards carbon neutrality in the future. MKN SteelPlus is our solution to significantly reduce the CO2 e footprint in professional kitchens, as stainless steel is the main component in professional kitchens. MKN currently offers the option for FlexiCombi® and FlexiChef®.
Currently, CO2 e reduced stainless steel is not yet available in all qualities and quantities, so we are not yet able to switch completely to SteelPlus.
We enable our customers to reduce their own CO2 e footprint. When ordering SteelPlus, MKN undertakes to purchase the respective quantity of stainless steel (including offcuts) from SteelPlus and to use it in its products. This reduces the CO2 e footprint in line with the amount of stainless steel used in the appliance. With the mass balance or quantity equalization method used, we can offer you a reduction in CO2 e emissions at low additional cost. The mass balancing we carry out is monitored and certified annually by an independent body.
An independent auditing company audits the mass balance sheet once a year and confirms its correctness in the annual report. We are also working towards official certification by an independent auditing body, which monitors and confirms the process.

Yes, you will receive written confirmation of the CO2 e emission savings achieved as a result of your order with MKN SteelPlus.
Example:
You purchase an MKN premium appliance with a stainless steel content of e.g. 150 kg:
| Stainless steel content | CO₂e footprint with classic stainless steel | CO₂e footprint at MKN SteelPlus | CO₂e savings with MKN SteelPlus |
1kg stainless steel
| 1,00 kg
| 1,885 kg
| 1,06 kg
| 0,825 kg
|
Example product
| 150,00 kg
| 278,25 kg
| 159,00 kg
| 119,25 kg
|
If MKN SteelPlus is used, the CO2 e footprint of the stainless steel in this example is reduced by 119.25 kg CO2 e. This CO2 e saving is confirmed to you.
There is a form for this, which you fill out and send back to MKN by email. MKN will send you a confirmation for each appliance with details of the stainless steel content and your CO2 e savings.

MKN SteelPlus uses a very high proportion of recycled stainless steel. Average stainless steel produced in Europe already has a high recycling value of approx. 90%. The recycling value of MKN SteelPlus is even higher at approx. 98%. This means that almost one hundred percent of SteelPlus stainless steel has already been used as stainless steel. It is therefore particularly clean and sustainable because only 2% primary raw materials need to be added. MKN SteelPlus is manufactured within the EU using state-of-the-art production methods and low-CO2 e electricity.
MKN SteelPlus is an option that is actively supported by MKN, so that the additional price is only approx. 1% of the appliance price. The exact value depends on the amount of stainless steel used, which varies depending on the appliance type.
The SteelPlus option is currently available for the FlexiChef® family, the FlexiCombi® family, and the entire new OPTIMA line.
Of course, our MKN employees are well trained and are available to answer your questions. You can also send your question to the following e-mail address and you will receive an answer as soon as possible.
