Do you know Nordic tapas? If not, then you should pay a visit to the Gasthof zur Post in Cuxhaven. Alexandra and Oliver Blauth's restaurant serves a variety of delicious fish specialities as well as many other delicacies from home-style cooking.
The Hotel and Gasthof Zur Post is located in the centre of the spa area and just a few steps away from Duhnen beach. The Blauth couple took over the traditional hotel over ten years ago. Built in 1872, it was the first catering establishment in Duhnen. It also used to be a post office, as the name still shows today. Incidentally, it was at a regulars' table in the Zur Post restaurant that a custom was born that is now known worldwide: the Duhner Wattrennen. The "horse race on the seabed" has been held in the Wadden Sea off Duhnen since 1902 - and is one of the most bizarre traditional events internationally.
But, of course, there is also a breath of fresh air in Duhnen. When Alexandra and Oliver Blauth took over the business, many things were completely renovated and modernised. Even the food on offer. "Fresh fish takes centre stage for us. But we also wanted to retain the home-style cooking," says Oliver. They mainly offer their guests regional and seasonal products.
In 2017, they founded "Blauths Streetfood & Meer": quick, light and simple dishes such as burgers, vegan potato waffles and, above all, fresh fish sandwiches are the main focus here.
In both kitchens, they relied entirely on MKN professional cooking technology. "With the kitchen technology from MKN, everything is now very compact and we were even able to reduce the size of the area," emphasises Oliver. Equipment and hygiene have been optimised. Reliability and quality were other important criteria when selecting the professional cooking technology. "It had to be easy to handle and efficient to use. After all, we want our chefs to enjoy working with it!"
