The Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) in Woden, ranks among the central vocational education and training establishments for hospitality and culinary arts in Australia.
The teaching kitchens are in action every day and geared to prepare students for the daily work routine in professional gastronomy businesses. With the aim of combining modern training standards, efficient processes and future-oriented technology, a kitchen has been designed here that meets all industry requirements.
At the Woden Campus of the Canberra Institute of Technology, the teaching kitchen is a central component of hospitality training. Students with varying levels of experience work on realistic assignments every day - from basic cooking techniques to complex workflows typical for professional catering operations.
The existing kitchen equipment was only able to meet these requirements to a limited extent. The aim was to find a solution that reflects modern training standards, functions reliably in daily operations and at the same time, supports the transition towards energy-efficient, all-electric kitchens. The challenge was to create an evironment that simplifies learning proesses, enables reproducible results and offers trainees realistic insight into modern food service equipment.
Within the framework of the project, a fully all-electric kitchen with MKN equipment was realized at the CIT Woden Campus. The installed MKN appliances are in consistent alignment with the standards of modern hospitality and catering establishments, making it possible to structure workflows and ensuring that these are understandable for trainees.
High performance, energy-efficient MKN equipment is in use, guaranteeing ease of use, consistent results and reliable operation even under heavy use. The equipment reduces maintenance, simplifies cleaning processes and aids a safe, controlled working environment – a crucial factor in a teaching kitchen where user groups change daily.
With its new kitchen equipment, the CIT Woden Campus has a modern training environment to prepare students realistically for day-to-day work in the hospitality industry. The all-electric kitchen provides consistent results, clear learning processes and a structured daily routine – regardless of the users' experience.
At the same time, the equipment supports energy-efficient and low-maintenance operation designed for the long term. The kitchen is not just a place of learning, but reflects professional gastronomy today and tomorrow. So, the project establishes the foundation for vocational education that meaningfully combines professional quality, technological advancement and sustainable perspectives.
„We were teaching in an old gas kitchen - switching to all-electric kitchen has completely changed how we teach. It's cleaner, safer and gives our students a real-world experience on the latest equipment. Phoeniks has been fantastic through the whole process.“
